Virtual Private Network (VPN)

What is a VPN?

A virtual private network (VPN) enables a network-connected device to send and receive data across a public network (usually the Internet) as if it were connected to a private network (usually the business network). In simpler terms, it allows a device to connect to a network and benefit from its functionality and security, without being directly connected to that network.

In CSPD VPN connections are used to allow staff to work at home, enabling interaction with systems normally only available on-site at schools. This is accomplished using the application Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client, which can be installed on either a PC or a Mac computer.

How do I use it?

Installing the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility client

The client cannot be installed from within the CSPD network. The client must be installed on a separate network, e.g. from home or using mobile hotspot.

The Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility client can be downloaded from https://vpnparra.catholic.edu.au for both the Mac and Windows platform. Once on this site it will take the user through a series of simple prompts to install the client to the machine.

General Use

The client will not function within the CEDP network. The connection can only be made when the device is connected to an external network, e.g. from home or using mobile hotspot.

What if it doesn't work?
